What is Borderline Personality Disorder?
BPD is an Emotional Dysregulation Disorder also referred to as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD). There are 9 traits presented in BPD/EUPD and you need to show at least 5 of them over a period of time in ways that are debilitating to your life for a clinical diagnosis.
What are the 9 traits?
Fear of real or perceived abandonment
Unstable, intense, often short lived relationships
Unstable sense of self
Impulsive, self destructive behaviours
Extreme unstable mood swings
Self harm and suicidality
Chronic feelings of emptiness
Uncontrollable and explosive rage episodes
Dissociative, delusional, depersonalisation episodes
Do I need a diagnosis for treatment?
Diagnosis and therapy is a luxury many people can’t afford. If you are unable to afford formal therapy then “Self Therapy” is a valid way to help yourself. You do not need a formal diagnosis to start managing your traits, start by going to the Recommended Reading tab and downloading the DBT workbook.
Do you only work with people with BPD?
No, I work with all types of people who are interested in learning skills to create a life worth living.
Do you take insurance?
I currently do not accept insurance, however I do accept a certain amount of clients on a pay scale basis or pro-bono basis when possible. Please let me know if you are a student or in financial hardship when inquiring about working together.
Do you take in person clients?
At the moment I am only accepting online clients, for your session you will need to have a Zoom account.
What is “Bipitty Friends”?
One of my platforms I work from is Tiktok, during my time posting on Tiktok I have began referring to people who are part of the BPD community as Bipitty Friends (Bipitty= a play on the words BPD).
Can I ask questions over email/dm/tiktok/instagram?
Unfortunately it is not possible for me to give specific advice in those formats, for a variety of reasons but most importantly because every situation is different and will have nuance. I would need more information and much longer time. Feel free to request a once off session with me if you do not want ongoing management.
